If you have read about Adsense, you would also have read about how Google ensures the terms and conditions as well as the Program Policies enforced for Adsense. If you contradict those, you can be sure that either Google will ensure those policies themselves, or kick you out of the program. So, for example, Google has a policy about only showing 3 text units per blog, and the Adsense code itself ensures that will happen – so even though the code may be implemented in more than 3 locations, the ad will only show up in the first 3 places where the code is present.
Google can also kick out people when they are indulging in click fraud, which is also against their terms and conditions. So, if you ask people to click on your ads, or put ads next to images which may cause people to think that the ad explains the image, then Google is likely to give you a warning, or kick you out.
So, when Google rolled out the Adsense in feeds program, a lot of people have a similar query; each feed can have more than 1 items within the feed, and if the ad shows up more than 3 times, will this be against the policies. Google has responded that this will not be a problem (read more at the Google blog)

Many publishers have asked the question “Since feed items often get displayed with many feed items on a single web page, can using AdSense for feeds jeopardize the status of my AdSense account?” The answer is no. Having three ad units per page is a product specific policy for AdSense for content.
In essence, the variable ways in which feed items are displayed are controlled and optimized automatically by the AdSense for feeds application and the choices you make as a publisher in your AdSense account when configuring your AdSense for feeds ad units. This means we may automatically suppress ad impressions when we detect there are too many feed ad units being displayed, resize ads based on the size and length of your content, and adjust the ads that are displayed based on the device in which the feed is being read.

I run a number of WordPress blogs and some other applications, and am hosted on Hostmonster for all these items. A few days back, I ran into a major problem where I found that suddenly my blogs and other photo galleries, etc, all had been replaced with a standard Hostmonster message that the account had been suspended for some time due to causing a risk to the performance of the servers. This is one area that a person needs to be really careful about, since these are servers where a number of different user accounts run at the same time, and the host cannot allow one member to have bad processes running that would affect the server or the performance of other users.
However, this was something that was scary to me – if the blogs shut down, then so goes the chance of using these blogs to develop money to the extent that I could stop from my current job. So I went to the Live Customer Support, and asked them about my problem. Hostmonster (and most other hosting services) do not offer free technical help in resolving problems, but I did get some transcipts from the logs that helped me to solve some of the problems. What was happening was that some processes in a WordPress Blog that I host about Consumer Rights in India (link) were over-loading the server and causing Hostmonster to stop my account. To get my account back in line, I was supposed to make things better, and then could apply for getting my account back in operation.
I am out of touch technically with getting into the internals of WordPress, and so was initially confused about what to do to solve this problem – however, I needed to get my account enabled again, else that would be the end of my blogging career (I can’t run all the accounts on Blogspot only, need to have some WordPress Blogs). From the logs that I got from Customer Service, it soon became clear that this had somehting to do with the Comments section of the WordPress Blog. This Blog of mine receives well over 1000 spam comments every day, and I have very rarely gone in and deleted these spam comments explicitly – WordPress gets rid of them every month or so.
Now that I had some top level indicators of what I needed to do, and what the exact problem could be, I needed to drill down deep, search for solutions, and get my account and my blogs re-activated. The steps I took are outlined in the next post (due shortly).

The Google Adsense Program has made it quite clear over the years that click fraud is something that they will work real hard to prevent. If you think you are being real smart and will make a lot of money by clicking on your ads yourself, or by asking friends and relatives to click on the ads, thing again. This is one of the fraud techniques that is a very important target for Google, and you can be sure that you will be found out and possibly your account terminated.
However, there are sudden cases when you can accidentally click on your own ads, and the first time I did this (I was clicking on something else, when Internet explorer suddenly moved the page down and I clicked on the ad), I was worried stiff. After all, I had just started writing blogs, and there is no alternative that is as good as the Adsense program. So, I started reading more about this, and came away with the feeling that an accidental click in something that the Google Adsense program allows, but deliberate sustained clicking will get you banned. You still need to make sure that you do not get stuck in the trap of clicking on the ads in your own blogs.
Here is the link from the Adsense blog that describes how an accidental click is something that is tolerated by Google.
Here is a Google post that talks about click fraud and invalid clicks.

If you want to report an accidental click, consider this line:
I accidentally clicked on my own ads. Will this cause a problem for my account?
Although publishers are not permitted to click on their own ads for any reason, we do understand that accidental clicks may occur. We therefore don’t require that you contact us every time you click on your ads. Rest assured that your account is being properly credited for all clicks and impressions we consider to be valid.

This post can seem a bit disappointing for those of you who regard the internet as a fast money scheme; I know people who were looking to make money from the internet through the blogging platform. They did some search, and what did they find ? They found many people selling How-To’s – How to become an instant millionaire, how to retire as a millionaire from the internet, how to make so much money through tips and techniques that were learnt from long practise and which the author is willing to sell for ‘not $400′, ‘not $199′, but the great price of $49 for today only.
Once a friend got attracted to such searches, and decided that he was going to become a millionaire from these techniques, that an investment of $49 is a price he was willing to pay to get untold riches from the technique that he was going to get. I tried some counselling, using phrases such as ‘a sucker born every minute’, ‘if the author is making so much money, why would he want to sell his secrets like this’, ‘such easy and magical promises are usually false’, and so on. And for the first time I learnt what the phrase about your words falling on a deaf ear meant.
He paid, downloaded with much hope, and asked me to read the literature (i had after all been slogging on a blog for much time). After a few pages, it was all I could do to stop myself from laughing, the text was all about explaining what Adsense, Adwords, Bidding for ads, etc meant. This was the very same thing that I was trying to explain, and that too for free.
Hence, please remember that if something looks too good to be true, it is basically a sucker-trap. There are no sure-fire quick ways to make money on the internet in a legal way; you have to learn how to make your blog popular, get readers interested in what you have to say, and be patient.

This post is relevant for most people, whether they be experienced bloggers of newbies who do not know much about the Adsense program (they can copy the Adsense code, but do not know too much more about what the terms and conditions of the Adsense program are, and other such details). The Adsense Program is a dynamic program, with terms and conditions changing from time to time. So, it is fine if the change makes the program more liberal, but sometimes the condition changes such that the Adsense Program forbids something that used to be allowed earlier. If you are now violating these terms in your new posts, and Google blacklists you, taking the defence that you did not know about these changed terms may not work (and trust me, you do not want to get into a situation where Google may be thinking about terminating your Adsense Program).
So, what can you do ? Well, you can add a feed to the Adsense Blog (link). The Adsense Blog offers tips on how to improve your earnings from Adsense (including the way to add Videos and make ad money from them, the announcement of the removal of the Ad referral program, and also the change in terms that prohibit a certain amount of closeness of words next to an Adsense ad, all of these were announced on the blog). So if you are not reading the Blog and are using Adsense, then I would submit that you are making a mistake.
