Search Engine Optimization through a WordPress Plugin

The WordPress.org plugin directory contains some gems that you should explore. One among them is the ‘All in One SEO Pack’. For people maintaining blogs, the concept of Search Engine Optimization is something that not everyone is aware. If you are just starting out, be aware that getting a good placement in search engines is paramount to the success of your blog. If your blog is all about fashion tips, and your blog appears in the first page of the search result of Google, then you have it made. However, if not, then that reduces the chances of people discovering your blog. The science of how to get your blog in the top pages of search engines is called SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and is a complex science. People learn how to do this, and start gaming the search engines; the search engines respond by changing their tactics, and penalizing people who are actually trying to trick the search engine. This is a process that continues to evolve.
What this also means is that unless you are a SEO expert, it is difficult to do this right. Suppose you search for information on how to do this, you may find information that seems relevant. But because of the constant tussle between SEO experts and the search engines, techniques that used to work earlier may no longer work. To help in this problem, there is this WordPress plugin called ‘All in One SEO Pack’. It is available at this location: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/
Some of the things which this plugin can do (from the website):
* Automatically optimizes your titles for search engines
* Generates META tags automatically
* Avoids the typical duplicate content found on WordPress blogs
* For WordPress 2.3 you don’t even have to look at the options, it works out-of-the-box. Just install.
* You can override any title and set any META description and any META keywords you want.
* You can fine-tune everything
* Backward-Compatibility with many other plugins, like Auto Meta, Ultimate Tag Warrior and others.

  • This is an excellent SEO plugin for the WordPress blogging platform. I really enjoy using the category base killer to remove the /category/ part in permalinks and the yet another relevant post plugin to provide relevant\related posts underneath every post; it’s a great way to boost your internal linking. You should try those two out, make sure if you use the category base killer to 301 redirect old urls!
